Tom:
Almost everywhere in Cancun's Hotel Zone has a fabulous beach and most hotels have ocean front views. To narrow down the search, are you looking for a family orientated place or a party-type place? A room or a villa? Price range? All-inclusive? Posh or relaxed atmosphere? Near clubs and/or shopping? This information would be helpful before recommendations could be made. Been to Cancun 3 times, just came back 7/21/02. Stayed this time at the Royal Sands and the JW Marriott.

Tom:

In addition to those mentioned by Dee, the other favorites are Le Meridien, Ritz-Carlton Cancun, and Fiesta Americana Grand Coral Beach. If you like formality, antique furniture, and uncompromising service (and price) I'd say the RC. If you like big hotels with lots of things to do, I'd say FAGCB. FAGCB is also on the side of the hotel zone with calm waters. If you like a smaller scale European style hotel, good service, and good value, I'd say Le Meridien. The Ritz, Le Meridien, and JW Marriot are preety much right next to each other on the hotel zone. All have grwat views and nice beaches. Can't really go wrong with any of these choices.

Not all hotels have great beaches. All lot of the hotels on the north part of the Caribbean beach have suffered terribly from erosion. The ones around the Hyatt, the Continental Villas, the Krystal and that general area have little or no beach. If beach is important, it's even nicer in the Playa Del Carmen area about an hour south but you give up some of the party atmosphere of Cancun so it depends on what you want.

Buy the cancel waiver if it's offered. September is the worst month for weather and it's not so unlikely that there might be a hurricane spinning around in the Caribbean. Go expecting rain but be thankful if you get any days without it.
