How old are you and what are your interests? I ask because there are so many options it is impossible to cover all the bases...for example: Do you like beef or are you vegetarian? Makes a big difference in the kinds of restaurants to recommend. Do you want to go to a Tango show to take in local culture or would you prefer a hot local disco for 20 somethings, 30 somethings, older? Do you like nature and the great outdoors or do you prefer museums?

Here is a link to a web site by a local who provides an excellent suggested three or four day itinerary.....as well as a list of restaurants, etc

http://www.guillebaires.com.ar/

Here is a link to an excellent resource for restaurants (sorry, in Spanish only)....with rankings done by locals, broken down by type of cuisine and neighborhood....

I have quite a long file on BsAs (also Tigre, Iguazu Falls & Colonia) which I compiled when planning our trip last November. If you would like it, please e-mail me at [email protected]

actually DD, take a look at the top of the page on guiaoleo - you can switch to the english version very easily, just a click. and, of course, there's that other site for restaurant reviews... ummm, now what was that site name... hmmm... saltshaker.net or something?

I'm also taking a last minute trip to Buenos Aires but only for 2 days (34 hours to be exact). I know I don't have much time but I still want to try some good parrilla, visit a flea market and buy some leather goods. I'll arrive in BAs around 10am on Sunday and will be staying at the Marriott hotel. I don't even know how to start my short trip...please help!

Sunday is the perfect day to visit flea markets. There are several around town. Since time is limited, if you want to visit several you might arrange a private driver such as ana luna.....http://www.ana-luna.com/
Start with San Telmo and move on to Mataderos, two of the best in my opinion. There are good parrillas nearby at both locations. 1880 Parrilla in the 1600 block of Defensa (about 3 or 4 blocks away from the fair is a good choice)....alternately, there are numerous parrillas surrounding mataderos...Both markets have street entertainers....Mataderos is much more a local event than is San Telmo.

Leather....Since your hotel is across the street from several leather stores, try them or one of the shops on nearby Florida street...walk from Florida down to Plaza de Mayo for a self guided tour of downtown...on the plaza is the Casa Rosada and the national cathedral....

want another steak? try El Establo on Paraguay (near your hotel).....seafood...Dora is nearby....
Hope this helps you to take advantage of the limited time you have...

Thanks drdawggy, should I try Cabaña las Lilas like every other first-time visitor to BAs? Or this is just another overpriced and overrated restaurant geared towards tourists?

Cabanas Las Lilas is overpriced, not necessarily overrated.

so what parrilla restaurants would you recommend that is on par or better than ClL in quality but with a lower price tag (less tourist-ish) near Marriott Hotel?
