best new site in costa rica
 

I am visiting CR in late February/early March of 2017 with a tour group which will visit Arenal, Fortuna, Poas volcano, cano negro, Hot Springs, Manuel Antonio. This is my third trip to CR. WE did the first two trips on our own, and are repeating much of what we have seen and done on this tour with our adult siblings, all but Tarcoles river cruise and Manuel Antonio. We would like to stay app 4 days longer on our own to see some new sites,mainly nature,birds,wildlife. Can anyone offer suggestions on either extending the stay in Manuel Antonio area, or traveling to a nature lodge or "beautiful view" accomodations along Pacific coast toward Panama, or far western area down along the other coast? Years ago, while checking for travel to CR there was lodging on the Atlantic side in tree houses, which I thought would be quite an adventure. So far, this time, I have been unable to locate this lodging. This area seems very remote??? We are in our mid 60"s, in good condition, still do moderate hiking,love wildlife, like "off the beaten path" but not real far off. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Check out Bosque del Cabo - amazing wildlife and fantastic hiking. The views from the cabins are gorgeous.

I haven't been to Manzanillo. Almonds and Corals seems to get pretty decent reviews. Some people mention that the property seems a little tired. If you wanted to extend the stay in Manuel Antonio, Tulemar Bungalows is great. You could also check the Dominical and Uvita areas - those are popular.

I don't know exactly what you are looking for. So here are a few random favorites of ours.

I don't see Monteverde on your list. Have you been up there? Very reasonably priced, great hiking and birding. Best ziplines in the country.

If the Osa is too pricey, you can also look into Tortuguero. Lots of nature, at a reasonable price. Some folks get hung up on the turtles. No, you won't be there during turtle season. But it is still an awesome place.

We also like the area near Rincon de la Viejo for great nature, and Santa Teresa / Mal Pais for the beaches, nature, and fantastic food. The expat population in this area tend to be European and South American, and they have brought their food! Great spot.

DEAR PAT, thanks so much for all of your ideas. It sounds like you have traveled allot around Costa Rica. Yes we have been to Monteverde twice,loved it!! Will be there again this time with the tour group we will be with for seven days. We are staying on our own an extra four days, and I was wondering which would be best to ad to our "places experienced". We have been looking seriously at Manzanillo, almonds and Corals, but have never been over in that area and dont know anything about how remote everything is. Are there other places to eat around it.? Is the area safe?Are there any special "must see" places around there? Or I also was interested in the Danta Corcovado Lodge and Lookout Inn Beach...Thanks so much for your website or blog connection. I'm going there right now to investigate...If youve been to both corcovado national park area and to Manzanillo Area...which is most awsome for wildlife, birds, beauty and weather. THANKS!! THANKS!!
