Best MEXICO guide book
In the bookstore a little while ago, thumbing through Mexico guide books. Comparing coverage of my itinerary destinations (Palenque, Zihuatanejo, Zitacuaro/Angangueo, and Mexico City.)
I quickly determined the Frommers book inadequate for me. But I can't remember which of Fodor's or Lonely Planet I found more comprehensive and better organized...? This got me thinking: What is the best cross-Mexico guide book? Any of the above? Or Let's Go, Rough Guides, or other? AND is there a way to bring just the helpful information WITHOUT ripping the pages out...? I like the overall tips, organization, and index of a whole book, but I don't want all the bulk and weight of ALL of Mexico for just three destinations! |
Lonely Planet

Obviously you either need to xerox the pages or rip up the guidebook.
|
I like Let's go Mexico as a budget traveler. I especially like their Bus schedule info, bargin eats & tips.
|
I usually type up some summary notes on most of the things, then copy the pages with maps, and large chuncks of text such as background for historical sites that I want to review while at the sites.

Another vote for Lonely Planet. Xerox pages you need to carry with you on the street and leave the book in the hotel room.
|
You can also take books to a shop and have the binding sliced off neatly, then you are able to punch it & put it back together with plastic comb binding later on.

Interesting suggestion suze. Pausanias' too.
And I'll have to take another look at Let's Go when I go pick that LP guide at the bookstore Saturday ;) |
ah heck, I can't take credit for the guidebook rebinding idea, it's far from original
:-) My favorite guidebook series is Moon Publication, but I have no idea if they cover the region you are asking about. |
