We stayed at both Xandari and Vista del Valle during our trips to CR and enjoyed both. If you are arriving late or leaving early in the morning and just looking to spend the night, the Hampton Inn is very convenient and adequate. A lot of people on this board like Orquiedas Inn but I don't believe they allow childer under 16.

Thanks IZA,
I am looking at a place close to the airport for our first day, so we can rest from travelling.(Especially for my teenager and pre teen) After that we driving up to Tabacon. I notice Vista de valle has one tall waterfall, and Xandari has several small ones. Which hotel is better for walking around and seeing wildlife? Or are both hotels about the same.

Xandari is better for walking around as they have an extensive network of paths and hiking trails. Vista del Valle is more limited in that respect. You are not going to see a lot of wildlife in any of these hotels (mostly birds and insects) but you probably would have a better chance of that at Vista del Valle as it is more isolated and overlooks the Rio Grande Reserve. Xandari is closer to the airport than Vista del Valle and you get beautiful views of the Central Valley from there.
