Belizean airlines
I'll be travelling to Belize next month and wondered if I should get tickets for an in-country flight before I get there, or when I arrive. I'll take a taxi to the muni airport, and I know there are 2 or 3 Belizean airlines to choose from, but I don't know if they get booked ahead. Also, how long would you well-traveled Fodorites estimate to get through customs and to the muni airport in February?

Two lines, Maya Island and Tropic. If you will be catching the last flight of the day, I'd book ahead my seat ahead of time. Figure 30 mins to clear customs/immigration and get your luggage and another 25 mins to get to municipal.

Katie Valk
Belize

I agreed with Katir re: time. Another thing is to be sure that your luggage gets on the plane. If your on a smaller (there are 4-6 seaters to Dangregia, etc. for example) they tend to get the passengers on board, but due to weight restrictions, they leave the luggage for a 'later' flight. Some of out luggage didn't arrive at the resort until very late the next day.

We are flying into Belize, and then taking Tropic Air to San Pedro. Do we pick up Tropic Air at the International Airport, or does your question suggest that we go from International Airport to a municipal airport to get on Tropic Air??

I was in Belize a few years ago, and as I recall it was cheaper to take a taxi from the international airport to the muni airport than to fly there. I believe the reason was high airport fees for the in-country airlines to use the int. airport. Plus the taxi driver was a species of tour guide!! Rather fun!

It will cost about $20 more to fly out of Intl. than municipal. Taxi fare from the airport is 17.50. Depends on whether the hassle is worth the $$ saved.
