Belize versus the Maldives

Hello,We want to spend the holidays in a tropical country but we can’t decide to go to Belize or maladives. We want to go for about 10-12 days. 2 adults. Budget 4000-5000 per person including the flight from Holland.Things we want to do for sure:

-enjoy coral reefs
-snorkeling/diving
-sea fishing/deep sea fishing !!
-relax

We know Belize also offers jungle and quite interesting cultural heritage which we for sure will enjoy but our priority is with experiencing the coral reefs (see above ) If budget was infinite we chose Maldives but it is not..;)Anybody has some usefull advice?:)

For example, which islands on Belize? And does Belize offers the same tropical experience as the Maldvies?
What we found regarding the Maldives is many resort where you literally walk on the beach and go in the sea and instantly can enjoy the marine wildlife. Does Belize also offer such experiences?

Thanks!

We've gone to Belize a couple of times and loved it. We stayed on Ambergris, and it was fantastic. If you want less development, check Caye Caulker. A lot of places in Belize have sea grass right off shore, so we went via a quick boat ride. Hol Chan has impressive snorkeling - lots of beautiful tropical fish, sea turtles, large rays, nurse sharks, etc. For diving, check out the Blue Hole.
