Went about 5 years ago. Stayed at Victoria House on Ambergris. Very nice. Also stayed at Blancaneaux inland. Great jungle setting. Bring bug spray. But well worth the long drive. Beware that the road up to it is quite bumpy if you're in a small SUV. There is a butterfly farm close by that is an unforgettable experience. If you can, go to the Belize zoo. You can get within a few feet of many animals, including leopards.

Hi Shillmac - The flight to Ambergris is a kick. The closer you can sit toward the front, the better. Ramon's looks nice and it is definitely right on the beach. You can get your luggage there for a dollar or two - I wouldn't tote it through the sand. You're on vacation! Try the Blue Water Grill if it is still there.
The sand fleas were really, really bad the December we were on Ambergris. We rented a beach cabina about 3 miles north of San Pedro and I really paid the price for spending so much time out on the beach. You don't realize how many bites are building up until it is too late. |
