Belize August, 2008
We (late 50s parents) are thinking about taking 4 adults-19,26,27 and 30-to Belize in Aug. for about 7-10 days. They are all well-traveled and enjoy hiking, snorkeling (1 scuba diver) and cultural attractions. Any thoughts about in itinerary and where to stay. Suggestions on houses/villas/cottages to rent?

We did 10 days and split our time between the Cayo district & Ambergris Caye (San Padro).
|
I lean towards a similar split... we like Caye Caulker over Ambergris (more laid back) and did day trips to Ambergris.
Inland, we loved Chan Chich although the Cayo district is also a good choice. |
I'd stay in the San Ignacio area, do an overnight visit to Tikal in Guatemala, and end on one of the islands as suggested above. Our travelogue with pictures is here if you're interested:

Cayo is a good choice for mainland activities. Chaa Creek and duPlooys both have accocmodations large enough for your family to stay together, neither with cooking facilities. Numerous house rentals on Ambergris, a nice selection in Placencia. I rented a lovely 3 bdrm beach house with pool in Cocoplum on the Placencia peninsula this past weekend. And many condos in both areas, both close to and further from town.
