Beaches in Guatemala?

We can fly to GC quite cheaply from Phoenix, and we'd like to visit the interior, but combine it with a few days at the beach. Are there any beach resort type areas that are worth visiting?

Just came back this week from Guatemala, and we had a great time, including a visit to a very relaxing beach in Livingston. We discovered it by asking the locals. We went to Salvador Gaviota Ecolodge and hung out the whole day, and watched how people would arrive on the water taxis. It was inexpensive to hang out there for the day ( 3 of us with lunch and a few beers was less than $20). However, from Guatemala City getting to the beach will take you about 5 hours. You can travel on Litegua luxury bus lines (they have the CLASE level) Guatemala City to Puerto Barrios for 80Q, or less than $11 per person (exchange rate now is 7.5Q per $1). Once in Puerto Barrios, take a short taxi ride for 3 ppl (10Q) to the main dock, take a collective speed boat ride to Livingston (25Q pp), then a taxi ride to/from Livingston-Gaviota in Quehueche (20Q for 3pp). From there, you can go to other beaches, like Punta Blanca and Punta Gorda (Belize). We can't wait to go back and stay there & avoid the noisy town of Puerto Barrios!! Make sure to bring plenty of SUN BLOCK - sitting under the palm trees was deceiving.
