BDC garden bungalows
HI,
I have been reading about BdC on this post for years - finally have a chance to go but the only availability is in the garden bungalows a ways from the ocean. Is it worth it or should I hold out for a year that we can see the ocean?

Wow, really? They're all booked up? A garden bungalow wouldn't be my choice. I really love the ocean view and the breeze it creates. I personally would wait and go with the ocean ones, but we're total water people and always try to stay somewhere with a great view. If you just want to experience the wildlife, great food, etc., go for it.

I am in agreement with volcanogirl. The cabinas with the oceanview are just so awesome, and the breeze makes a big difference. I just don't think I could settle for the garden cabinas. Others disagree, I am sure. It depends so much on each person/group and what they enjoy most.

Hm.
Looks like they have one of the expensive ocean view casas available for 4 days.
How long do you think would be an optimal stay there? We are 2 adults and 2 tween girls.
Went 2 years ago to Arenal, MA and Osa and decided this time just to go to Osa but could reconsider this -
Thanks

We went for 4 days/3 nights, and that was about right for us. Some people like to stay a week. I'm always anxious to move on to the next spot. I am not a good relaxer - lol. When we were there, one couple was telling us they had been there 14 times; it's the kind of place people go back to.

I think you could have a great time with 4 nights. That will probably be how long I stay next trip, although I've also done 5 and 7 in the past and unlike volcanogirl never felt like I had to much time to relax. Always on a trail looking for something or other! LOL! Not completely true though, last trip I met up with some friends and stayed in Casa Miramar and did more lounge time than usual, but that was different because we were visiting. I say go for it and definitely splurge on that rather than the garden cabinas. You will be happy you did and I'm sure your kids will be too!

I've been for 5, 6 and 7 days various times. I prefer the lobger time there but I think 4 days would be fine.
One thing I would mention - with 4 people, in a garden cabina, I would think would be very very cramped. Yjey are smaller to begin with and only have 1 bed. Has Bosque mentioned how they plan to accomodate 4 sleepers?
If there is anything you can do to get one of the cabinas with a loft, I would definitely do so.

You may not hear from anyone regarding your question about anyone liking the garden cabinas. . yes, people do enjoy staying there. We've heard from and talked to people who have been perfectly happy with that option. Honestly have never heard anyone complain. It could be that those same people would have preferred one of the oceanfront cabinas but were content with the garden ones. Some people stay a few days in each. But tully is right--it would be quite cramped.

I'll be able to answer your question better after February. Last year my husband and I visited Bosque for the first time, 5 nights in a standard cabina - OMG! This year we're splitting our time - 4 nights in standard, 4 nights in garden. What convinced us to do this was meeting a couple who absolutely loved the remoteness of the garden cabinas, Didn't start out that way; they were at first disappointed and terrified, lol! What would be truly terrifying for me would be staying there with two t'ween girls!

We met a young kid, probably about 18, who was staying in a garden cabin by himself. I would have been a little freaked out personally. Some of the cabins don't even have walls - just nature. He loved it - great photographer, and it put him right in the middle of the action. I'm trying to remember if the garden cabins each have different construction. With his, we could see right in when we walked by.

Apologies Nancy, we sometimes lapse into fodor's shorthand around here! BdC is Bosque del Cabo, a wonderful lodge on the beautiful Osa peninsula. Here is their website - http://www.bosquedelcabo.com/ In addition to all the info there is a very nice video they just recently finished that is on the home page.

Cute place, open , the gardens are beautiful there. Just bring good flashlights and headlamps too, you will be crossing the suspension bridge daily, at dark it will be a fun adventure. The kids will love it! Toni
