Bariloche or Pucon??
Can any one help with evaluating one destination over the other? Are Pucon and Bariloche really either or destinations? We do not like crowds and spend most of our time with outdoor activities, so your thoughts are appreciated.

Bariloche, hands down. Pucon is a sleepy little town at the foor of a volcano, with a black sand beach on the pristine Lake Villarica. Very nice for a few days, especially staying at the famed Antumulal Hotel (on our Top Ten list).
But Barioloche is much larger and offers beautiful scenery and pleasant surroundings.

Thank you so much Stu T! This is our first trip, so I really really appreciate the insight. I saw this place and thought it looked great, www.barilochehouse.com. It is a bit out of town, but it is right next to the famous Hotel Llao Llao (I think it is called, sorry if I got the name wrong). Any thoughts on how many days to spend here, or activities to embark upon? Cheers! Kelly

Looks like a great little place, excelent rates. LaoLao is super expensive, but outstanding property. I would stay there for about three nights...you'll find Bariloche a very nice town to visit(Swiss-like and big on chocolates!)
We stayed in town (Hotel Edelweiss).
There was an delightful little place near the Lao Lao where we went for tea..what views! Unfortunately, may be closed now...ask about it: "Bellevue"..hope it's open..uniquely lovely.
Enjoy!

by the way, if you'll be driving (I imagine you will), stop by the lakeside town oif Frutillar in Chile's lake district...very scenic, with views of Volcan Osorno across the lake. We stayed at a great little b and b, across from the pier ("Kleine Salzburg"..
