Baja Xmas trip

Flying to Cabo on 12/26 (arrive 1 PM) and leaving 1/1 at 130 PM. Not interested in Cabo at all. Want to spend time in Todos Santos areas and the gulf side (La Paz, etc.) We are a couple in our early 50's. We don't like nightlife or crowded places. Looking for good snorkeling, kayaking, beaches. We are renting a car at the airport when we arrive. Can anyone give us some thoughts on places to stay, hotels, possible itinerary?

I love this hotel in La Paz:

Thanks for the quick reply Suze. It looks like La Paz is a pretty large city (300k people). Is this place in the thick of things. We are kind of looking for some peace and quite.

While La Paz ("the peace") is a good size city, it is not so much a tourist destination, just a normal Mexican city, and did not feel overwhelming to me. The hotel I mention is on the south edge, on the highway leading out of town towards beaches, etc. I know people use it as a base for sea kayaking, camping on the islands, whale watching, etc.

I mention it partly because you specifically asked about in your original post.

Thanks for the clarification -- looking at their site -- it looks quite nice.

Another question -- I am looking at a map -- it looks like there isn't really a road you can take along the gulf to get to La Paz from the Cabo airport -- instead it looks like it goes inland a lot -- is that true?

I believe that's correct. If you do a 'search', I know someone has described that drive before.

I flew directly into La Paz, and did not have a car the two weeks I spent there.

Dear Pamo:

Take a look at this place:

http://www.posadalapoza.com/

We took a day trip to TS last October and checked out this place. A little out of town, but on the ocean plus it has a great restaurant.

Snorkeling is just ok in Cabo. Nothing compared to Hawaii or Carribean. The main highway to La Paz does swing to the west thru CSL, but from what I understand, it turns out to be much quicker than along the Sea of Cortez and East Cape.

Good luck and have fun.
