Bahia -- travel tips

single female 30's traveling in November.
i just got back from a 6 week business trip & i need a vacation...

-what's the best airport to fly in & out from NYC to Bahia?

-looking for a resort/spa - cabin/bungalow on/near beach not couples oriented. i don't have the energy right now to switch hotels every few nights so i'm looking for a great place to relax that offers enough activites to entertain -- snorkle, horseback ride, kayak etc.

thanks for your help!!

Praia do Forte Eco-Resort is a good option. It offers everything that you mentioned that you are looking for, and it is close enough to Salvador da Bahia that you can take day trips into town for historic site seeing.

Either Hotel Transamerica on Ilha Comandatuba in Bahia. Fly to Rio or SP with a connection. Large resort with tons of activities. OR, Blue Tree Park, Angra dos Reis. South of Rio, road transfer. New hotel with lots of facilities. Love Praia do Forte but doesn't fit your profile. Everywhere with cabins on the beach is for lovers only or too quiet.

Praia do Forte does not have "only" families. You will find families almost everywhere you go in Brazil, because Brazil's families are very close and tend to travel together. Ilha Commandatuba is lovely but the air connections will make it necessary to overnight in Bahia before getting the early morning flight to the island. Once on the island you will not have the option of going into Salvador. You will be on the island for the duration.
So, I feel that Praia do Forte would offer the best of both worlds, seclusion when desired, and cultural options when desired.

Look, Praia do Forte is charming. However all breakfasts and dinners are buffet style. There is no spa. There are no singles. There are lots of babies in strollers. I cannot believe that is what a single woman in her 30s wants -- not me! At least at Comandatuba you have all ages and you can meet people without infants! Also try the new Blue Tree Resort in Angra dos Reis. Spa, 7 restaurants, groups, lots more chances to meet people but without being ONLY honeymooners OR families.....

Praia do Forte doesn't have ONLY honeymooners or families!
I don't see how you can generalize about that. I am just curious Liz, do you work in tourism in Brazil?
