guanajuato itinerary finally! opinions please
Hello!
We have booked our flights and have our itinerary! Here it is, please add comments. Hotels? Restaurants? Too long or short in any of these places?
Question: when I was looking at other posts there was one that said shorts were not acceptable attire could someone tell me if that's still the case?
Mexico City 3days
bus to Queretaro stay overnight
Queretaro
bus to Guanajuato 5 nights with day trips to SMA Hot springs Leon
bus to Guadalajara overnight
Guadalajara
Guadalajara flight home
Thanks everyone for all your help!

You will of course be spotted as a tourist if you wear shorts.
You will very rarely see any locals in shorts in inland cities.
Unfortunately (IMO) it is something you see more & more of such among tourists. I just shiver at every potbellied ole fart with white socks, sandals & shorts. And the young ones also.

Thanks. We are spending 2 nights 1 1/2 days in Queretaro do you think I need to add another day? Where should I delete a day to add to it? I was never planning on going to Guadalajara do you think I should see some of it? Or add that day to Queretaro?

Guadalajara is indeed a fine city but frankly with the other places you are going it really is not necessary IMO.
Wondering why you are eating up a half day "bussen" to as The Leon/Guanajuato Airport is expanding it's service. For instance Aeromexico now has a direct flight SFO to Leon & back as well as lots of other destinations.

I know its a lot of bussen but we are using airline points and the flights were better for us this way with less stops and long layovers. Guadalajara flights were better coming home than mexico city.

In Queretaro, I suggest Hotel 2 patios, hosteriadospatios.com. Great quiet location on 5 de Mayo, easy walking distance to anywhere you want to go. Budget would be Hotel Hidalgo. Casa de la Marquesa is special, but spendy. In QRO, hire a taxi to tour the aqueduct at night. Quite impressive.
I would skip Guadalajara, if you can.
Shorts can indeed mark you as a tourist. But so will everything else you do, so don't worry about that too much. I wear shorts here in San Miguel when its hot as do many expats. But no socks.

I wouldn't skip Guadalajara. The central historical district around the Plaza de Armas and the Cabanas Cultural Institute (Orozco murals),as well as some of the surrounding neighborhoods, are all worth seeing and are very different from Queretaro and Guanajuato.

Try Dona Urraca. It is also on 5 de Mayo. But it too can be spendy. Or, Suites Sofia, although I've never stayed there. There are many other fine hotels in centro, but IMO, those on 5 de Mayo have the best location.
