BA restaurant dress requirements

Are jackets and ties required for men in the better Buenos Aires restaurants?

Lyndie Nov 7th, 2004 01:26 PM

No. We ate at several up-market restaurants and my partner did not feel uncomfortable in a casual shirt and trousers. If you are eating at Hotel Alvear's restaurant, then maybe you need to dress up. Travellers are forgiven for minor dress errors!

Thanks, Lyndie. My husband and I will be celebrating our fortieth anniversary while in Buenos Aires so we plan to enjoy some nice restaurants, but ever since he retired he's limited his tie wearing to weddings and funerals. Besides that we like to travel light.

Travelling light is the way to go. Have a very happy anniversary. I would post the names of the restaurants you wish to visit as others here may have a different opinion, however we never felt uncomfortably out of place anywhere we went! Many of us Aussies are a casual bunch!

It all depends on the season. For a guy, my opinion, I always take a black shirt, and it goes a long way. Make sure it is good quality and well pressed. If in winter, a nice jacket over kakis and nice under shirt does the trick. Personally I find a tie and jacket so unconfortable to wear for dinner... rather go for the casual -elegant look. Nice pair of shoes make any outfit look even dressier....
