BA - Loi Suites or Art Suites?

I'm really leaning towards Loi Suites even though it's a bit more. They both seem to be in great areas though Loi Suites looks right next to the cemetery and a little closer to places I'm thinking of visiting. Plus Loi is more of a hotel and Art Suites a mix of hotel & apartment.....I'm thinking as a first time visitor, traveling solo, I may feel a little more comfy at Loi Suites.

Any comments or ideas to sway me away from Loi Suites or should I go for it?

When I visited BsAs a couple of years ago I stayed at Loi Suites Recoleta. I would recommend it. I did a trip report titled My Argentine Adventure which you can find here. Enjoy your visit!

The Loi Suites is a regular hotel.
The ArtSuites is an ApartHotel.
You have a concierge, daily maid service and you have more than a suite..a living/dining area, terrace, kitchenette, bedroom, bath.

We were in BA for a 2 week visit, we wanted to spread out a little more than a hotel room.
If I were alone, I might stay at the Loi Suites though..plus I value cmcfongs recommendations.

Tully

I think your impression of the two hotels is correct--LoiSuites is in the Recoleta Village area and Art Suites is four or five blocks away. Art Suites is more of an apart-hotel and LoiSuites is a hotel...Breakfast is better at LoiSuites and the hotel itself is newer....Art Suites offers two or three room suites and a kitchen...expect a hotel room at Loi despite the "suites" name.

They are both good choices depending upon your budget and preferences.

We stayed at Loi Suites Recoleta a few years back and really liked it. Great location, our first room overlooked the cemetery. Wonderful breakfast with lots of choices and served in a lovely atrium. Staff were very helpful.

Thank you all. Pretty much sold on Loi Suites and it's nice to have a back-up in Art Suites if needed. Think for my first time there a hotel may be a little easier for me. And thanks for topping your report cmcfong, it sounds like it was great - wish I had more than 7 nights!

I will be posting this today on Tripadvisor.....We are just back from Buenos Aires and spent 3 nights at Loi Suites.
The location is great for the cemetery and the Recoleta weekend market.
However, with a rack rate of $250 (US dollars) we were surprised by what was not in our room. It had no clock. It had neither ironing board nor iron. There were no drawers for clothing. The lock box was located on a top closet self. When I was not in the room, my 5'2" wife had to use a chair to get into the box. The breakfast was okay but everyday the scrambled eggs were too runny to eat. The registration desk will mail your postcards but they charge two pesos per card as a premium! If you decided to walk to the cemetery when it opens at 7am, you can get a cup of coffee to go from the breakfast room.

Just outside the hotel is a shopping center with a food court. On weekends they have a multitude of outdoor musicians---get ready for the noise. Bring earplugs.

Wow -- I'm amazed! First, the price has doubled since we were there 3-4 years ago. And charging to mail post cards, that's a first for me. Secondly, we were in several rooms while there and all were very quiet. Sorry u had a bad experience with the hotel.

Scarlett May 30th, 2008 12:16 PM

The Art Suites hotel did not have drawers but a walk in closet with built in shelves.
I think this might be an instance where the hotels here have a bit more of a difference than US hotels. Do they say they have an iron ? and your was just missing?
Hotel safes are sometimes put up high to make them harder to steal..I guess they don't think of the people using them lol.

That not really a " shopping center ", is called Village Recoleta. An excellent bookstore Cuspide is there, you can buy postcards there and mail them yourself at the corner place, (opposite McD's) downstairs, that also has internet..
There is also a beautiful cinema and a row of restaurants, that tend to be very touristy but the cafe is ok for coffee and medialunas ..

There is a very very loud bar/disco called Safari on Junin, which is most likely where you heard the noise / music from at night..only weekends.
I always wondered if the hotels were impacted by the noise, it can be heard on streets farther away..or maybe it depends on where the room is situated.

yestravel,
prices go up here weekly..almost daily on some things..

yestravel May 30th, 2008 02:12 PM

Scarlett -- so I gather. We're planning a trip in November and I'be been surprised at how much some places cost. Guess I won't be buying as many shoes and/or purses this trip. Seems that restaurants are still reasonable related to big cities in the US, yes?

avrooster May 30th, 2008 03:32 PM

Restaurants still cost a fraction of what they cost in the US, particularly if you try to go where the locals go.

One example in a touristy area such as the Recoleta, is the Rodi Bar.

Examples of where NOT to go, are "Cabaña las Lilas" and "La Cabaña".

Scarlett May 30th, 2008 03:57 PM

Exactly!
Groceries are still extremely reasonable, most restaurants we go to are downright cheap..but even the more touristy or trendy ones are really well priced ( if you are talking US$)

Clothes in some stores are well priced, shoes can be ridiculously inexpensive..as you walk along the avenues..look in the windows , prices will surprise you..
I like finding the hand knitted sweaters..it makes me wish I could knit but until then, you can buy great looking very trendy stuff here for less than Nordstroms :D

yestravel May 30th, 2008 04:08 PM

Well, come Nov I will be looking for those great local places. We did enjoy Rodi Bar on our last trip so other recommendaitons like it will be apprecaited. U guys living there need to do what u can to keep those prices down!

tully May 30th, 2008 04:14 PM

Yes, I'm finding prices are definitely not cheap on the hotels!

Of course as I'd pretty much made up my mind to stay at Loi Suites Isabel is trying to persuade me to choose Ayres de Recoleta. So more decisions! If anyone has input on that one I'd appreciate it as well, I'm considering the penthouse.

Loi still stays in the mix though....I'm almost 5'9 so sounds like I won't worry about the safe, I travel with a clock and not even sure where my own iron is :) Thanks for posting your thoughts on the hotel.

Scarlett May 30th, 2008 04:53 PM

Ayers Recoleta is between Las Heras .. a very busy noisy big street and Vicente Lopez, a small street but extremely busy..on Vicente Lopez are the cafes and girly clubs and restaurants...we are not in love with that stretch of the street..
Ayers is a small apt bldg in the middle of the short block..a garage is across the street..
The aps look beautiful..I don't know about sound proofing etc..
All a matter of personal taste but comparing the 2 locations.. I would stay at the Loi Suites.. you have a real hotel with people working all hours, security and someone there if you have a question.

You know, if you walk 2 blocks away from the Loi Suites, you are right in the heart of Recoleta and all of its beautiful neighborhoods and parks ..

It is crisp and cold here right now :)

tully May 30th, 2008 08:48 PM

It was about 90 here today :) I hope it is warm in late Oct, I am not used to temps below 75.

When you say girly clubs you mean like strip clubs? That is not something I would be comfy walking by alone, especially at night. Or at least here in FL it tends to bring out some unsavoury characters.

I am waiting on Loi to respond if they have availability, we'll see from there!

Scarlett May 31st, 2008 05:58 AM

Yes, some sort of strip clubs.
I do have to say though, there are homes ( apt bldgs) all around also.. the bouncers or whoever those men are, keep a good eye on things..I prefer not to walk past there at night , only because there are lone men who might have had too much to drink..but the men here are generally very gentlemanly and if they saw someone being bothered, they would help.
Loi Suites is a bit farther- 2 long blocks away and totally different atmosphere.. you know, this area with the clubs is just one block then there is the block the Village Recoleta is on..otherwise, it is just part of the city.

Good luck on the reservations!
Oct is lovely.
