BA--favorite bookstore?
I know I'm anticipating here, as my vacation is still a couple of months off, but I have all these questions!
So to start with an important one: Is there a bookstore you recommend? I read (and speak)Spanish and would like to find a great bookstore with literature in Spanish and clerks who read and would be happy to chat and make recommendations. On the off chance that French books might be cheaper in Argentina than in the U.S. (they are so expensive here!), where would you go to buy literature in French? (in Buenos Aires! I'll make it to France again sometime, but not this year.) I love browsing in bookstores so recommend away! My tour of BA via its bookstores... |
How about this, Cindy?
http://www.tematika.com/instituciona...unegocio=yenny Or are you looking for something more old-fashioned? I don't think French books are cheaper here than in the US, but why don't you look at this: http://eiffel-livres.com/index.php |
Make sure to visit El Ateneo on Santa Fe and Callao - for the experience is nothing else. It is a beautifully restored old theatre made into a book store.
On Corrientes you will find lots of bookstores - many used. That may be where you find bargains. raquel |
Here's the website for El Ateneo, Cindy: http://www.tematika.com/instituciona...negocio=ateneo

El Ateneo is amazing and there is a little cafe where you can read something before you buy it. I think that is permitted at least that was what I did last year. The building used to be a theatre. Its pretty impressive.
Cindy, do you ever go to Montreal or to Quebec City? There are tons of bookstores in both cities that have francophone literature from both Canada and France as well as from other French-speaking countries. You will really enjoy BA and there are parts of La Recoleta that remind me of certain arrondisments of Paris. Buenos Aires is just spectacular. I wish the airfare was so expensive. It has doubled in price in the last 5 years. |
Another vote for El Ateneo. Huge collection and very cool space.

Thank you all! Four bookstores and a street with used bookstores to check out and browse through!
