B.A. To go or not to go.
If you are deciding to go to B.A., don´t hesitate to visit this wonderful city. Nice walks, friendly people and excellent food.
Of course, as in any big city, there are problems not bigger than cities across the US
or Europe. Just take the necessary precautions and you most probably will not have any problems.
Came back few days ago, and really enjoy it.
Also lots of interesting trips to the countryside ( Bariloche, Iguazú falls, etc.) for sightseeing.
Any questions are welcome. Enjoy!

I am planning a trip to Argentina for about 2 weeks. What area is recommended in Buenos Aires? What are considered the "must-see" sights? Can you reassure me on the safety? wheather in October? Would appreciate info on day trips. Thank you for any suggestions.

Mike: I recommend where I stayed that is Recoleta area. We did walk at day and night time without any problems and lots of nice restaurants in the area. It is about 5 to 10 min to downtown and more quiet. Lots of sightseeing and to do ( ninth biggest city in the world). You should buy any travel guide ( We used Fodors)If you speak spanish www.elgourmet.com lists the best restaurants of any type of food. About safety just be aware of pickpockets as in any big city. Taxi rides very cheap; to downtown 1-2 usd.
We went to Bariloche, and if you have time go for 3 nights. It´s beautiful and to go it is inexpensive. We paid for the 2 of us $500 including airfare, hotel and breakfast.
Enjoy!

Thanks! What about Iguacu?
|
Mike: We didn´t go to Iguazú, but I heard it was impressive. 2 days and 1 night maybe is enough and it is 1:30 h flight from BA.
|
We did Iguazu in August and it was spectacular! We arrived in Iguazu City one evening, spent the night, spent the next day on that side, then went the next morning to the Brazil side and flew out that afternoon. Really beautiful.

I will be travelling for work to Buenos Aires in mid November. I am completely open to any suggestions on places to see and visit, I do enjoy museums and night life. Any good buys of note? Thanks for your help
Sherry: You will surely enjoy this wonderful place. There is a lot to do and see as is a big city. I would suggest to buy a good travel guide before you go ( fodors, frommers, time out) and will show the best places to hang arround, museums, etc. I don´t know how many days you will spend there, but don´t miss San Telmo area on sundays as there is an antique fair in the streets with tango dance, mimes, with a lot of local flavor. Also visit the Recoleta, Puerto Madero, Barrio Norte, Boca (not recommended at night), all with interesting things to see while walking.
Night life is plenty with lots of theaters, cafes with tango dancing, discos, that you could check with local newspapers in the entretainment sections or with specially located information boots within the city. I don´t know if you speak spanish but english is frecuently spoken in the city. Any other specific information please reply as I know this is to general. Enjoy!

Had a fantastic long weekend in BA in early Aug; planning to return early Nov because it was so much FUN, great people, superb beef & food, wonderful markets, and great sights! Took city tour to start, then walked a lot, enjoyed weekend markets, and even tangoed! Stayed at Best Western Art Deco, 1 blk from Obelisk and 2 blks from Teatro Colon-very helpful people and $50 US (+21% tax:( ) for 3 room 'suite'with balcony; think it's $54 now. MUST SEE pink palace (re-see Evita before you go), Recoleta, Boca during day, Teatro Colon. MUST EAT at both an AG BBQ place, like Cabana Las Lilas (upscale couldn't have been better) and an Asada place. Take home good wine! Took taxi for 3/4 day to Tigre (market disappointing) for enjoyable waterside lunch with music; next time will take hour boat junket around villages ($5). Also next time making time to take jet foil over to Montevideo as a long day trip (6:30 am to 9 pm). Do be careful to take only radio taxis. ENJOY!!!

Just one last question: night life?
Thanks again. Sherry
|
Sherry,
In case you have not seen this info in previous posts:

A few suggestions about night-life. Night life is intense in BA. There are multiple options, some of the best ones for each eveining are:

- Monday evening: meet some Brits / Americans at The Shamrock. After that, dinner in El Danzon in Recoleta. Excellent atmosphere.

- Tuesday evening: The Kilkenny. Meet the locals who go there for happy hour, and also some Brits/Americans.

- Wednesday evening: You will be ready for interacting only with locals. Have dinner at Asia de Cuba or Museo Renault and stay there after dinner for some dancing. After that, you can join the best partying group of BA at one of the meetings that Mary Roberts offers each Wednesday at different places. E-mail me when you are here and I will let you know where the meeting is on that Wednesday.

- Thursday evening: bar hopping at the lots of bars of Palermo Hollywood, and then have dinner at one of the multiple restaurants. Dominga is a good option. See reviews at elgourmet.com or adondevamos.com. Only in Spanish, sorry!!!

- Friday evening: check bars and restaurants in Las Cañitas.

- Saturday evening: Walk along the restaurants, pubs and bars in Recoleta. Pagana is an option for dancing.

- Sunday: rest after the day in San Telmo.

For further info check our website www.apartmentsbuenosaires.com

Have fun!
