August Weather in Belize - too humid?

I was considering a trip to Belize in August, but a friend said she had been there and it is terribly humid. I just wanted to get some more input before looking for another destination.

Thanks!

It varies by year but statistically April and May are hotter than August. I've been twice in August and the 2nd time it wasn't near as hot and humid as the 1st time. Obviously, we still had a blast the 1st time or we wouldn't have planned a 2nd trip. Technically it's hurricane season so keep your ears open, otherwise it's a great time to visit imo. Photos and recommendations below - happy trails!

August is hurricane season?

hopefulist Dec 11th, 2010 05:56 PM

Technically June through November or maybe early December; the worst storms tend toward later in the season. You can keep track on http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/

We've visited CA 9 or 10 times so far, always in the summer. We've had a few close brushes with hurricanes which have meant a few days of heavy rain but they've never forced changes to our plans or taken an edge off our trips.

I think hurricane season runs from the beginning of June to the end of November, at least it does here. bay, we did Belize in the summer, and it was very hot and humid in the Cayo area. We didn't have AC for the jungle portion and some days it was pretty steamy; our cabin got up to almost 90 degrees, but we just cranked up the fans. When we did tours, we all loved riding in the van with the AC cranked up. Still loved it though. Our hotel on Ambergris had air conditioning so we barely noticed the heat, plus there were some nice breezes blowing there. There are places with air conditioning if that's what you want.

In August pretty hot steamy especially jungle PM rains LOTS

rare but not uncommon hurricane or tropical storm...

Tis the season...so I go to CA in winter there lots nicer.

In August Hawaii the Big Island www.alternative-hawaii.com

or lots of nice beaches in South America like Brazil

with lots better weather in August...

Happy Journey,

hopeful, looks like we were posting at the same time!

Yep - brilliant minds run in the same circles, as my grandpa used to say. ;-)

Thanks for your advice. Not as interested in HI and I did look into Brazil but was coming in over budget for what I wanted to do (mostly jungle time not beach). I may have to just chance it on the first 2 weeks in August as I have to manage a software conversion next summer and that may be my only opportunity to escape.

Thanks for all the input. I've done Hawaii many times, Brazil is a little farther than I want to go this year. I've done a lot of traveling in the Caribbean and I'm not really concerned about the Hurrican threat.

We were in Belize in August. It was hot and humid, but not worse than Pennsylvania in August. The staff told us that the weather was not the worst they get - it wasn't as hot or humid as the worst time of year. Like volcanogirl, we also stayed at Chaa Creek, with no A/C and it was warm at night, and the fans did keep it cool enough to sleep. In Ambergris we did have A/C, but our cabina never really got as cool as I would have liked at night. But I definitely wouldn't have picked another destination because of the humidity. It was certainly tolerable. I'd go back in August.

Shell, thanks again for all your help with our trip; we basically followed in your footsteps!

v-girl - are you planning a trip for this year? Back to Belize or CR? Haven't made any plans yet for us, budget is a bit tight, but I'd love to go back to Belize and bring the kids this time! I'm itching to start planning!! :)

volcanogirl Dec 15th, 2010 02:38 PM

I'm with you!

I'd love to the jungle of CR and the beach of Belize - not sure how much coordination that would take, but it would be the best of both worlds.
