Argentina -Help with flights

Hi,
I have a trip booked to Argentina in March. There are 3 of us going. We are looking for a round trip flight from BA to Bariloche. Buying the ticket from NYC on the internet is about 280 USD each. I understand a local ticket is about 150 USD. Last year I emailed BA travel agent and got a much cheaper flight to go from BA to Mendoza. That travel agent now wants a certain commision upfront.

I was wondering if anyone had any advice getting a good rate on flights within Argentina booked from the US. I would appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Try Southern Travel International (look up on google; I don't have the number here). It's located in Miami but specializes in Argentina. They got us great rates from the US to BA, and for BA to Calafate to Bariloche to BA.

jeanfromboston: I don't quite understand. In another similar thread you say: "We did not use a travel agent except to book the refugios" and here you say you did.

Which is correct?

Avrooster: Sorry I wasn't clear. We used a consolidator (Southern Travel International) to book the flights in order to get a better fare, and pathagone to book the refugios, but we did not ask a travel agent to arrange any other part of the trip, such as the hotels or ground transport. I booked the hotels myself directly by email.

Thanks for the replys. LAN is 763 Arg. pesos. Wow wants a 100 usd fee prior to starting their work. I haven't been able to locate Southern Travel International as of yet (I'm currently in London and can only get google uk which has not brought it up) If you happen across their website I would certainly appreciate it.

Any other recommendations would certainly be appreciated.
Thanks,
Tim

Tim: Here is the site for Southern Travel International:

www.stitravelinc.com

There's not much info on the website, but their email address will be there. I worked with Nicolle, who was very helpful.

Thanks Jean. Unfortunately, the phone number in Miami posted on the web site is disconnected. I sent sti travel an email. I'll let you know if I hear from them.

If any one has any other recommendations for getting a better rate, it would be appreciated.

You might try my agent: [email protected] She will not ask for a commission up front.

Please post a trip report. I am trying to decide whether to go to Bariloche, El Cafate or Ushahia or try to do two of the three.
Thanks.
