Argentina --

We are going to Argentina this winter and were quoted the following transfer prices from airport to hotel (and vice versa). They seem VERY high to me, but I couldn't find any really current information. I did see the post about a taxi at EZE costing about 50 pesos to downtown.

EZE Private with bilingual driver $53 (yup, dollars)
AEP Private with bilingual driver $18

Airport to Hotel in Ushuaia SHARED SERVICE (meaning that the bus will stop at a bunch of other hotels so it would take as long as it takes) $20 (private $65)

Airport to Hotel in El Calafate SHARED SERVICE $60 (private $77)

Airport in Bariloche to Downtown Hotels SHARED $48 (PRIVATE $86)

Added together, the transfers total $398(gotta go from and then back to the airport)which seemed pretty steep!

So, are these rates out of line? And, if don't take any of the transfers, is there any difficulty getting a cab from the airports to the hotels in town and vice versa at any of these locations?

Lastly, has anybody used Say Hueque or Solar Travel? Both seem to have decent rates (except for the transfers).

Thanks for any help that this forum can provide!

I replied in the other posting I only wish to add tht it is not they are out of line, all over the world transfers are expensive ,it is the way it is. But also all over the world it is much cheaper to take local transportation.

I will be going to Argentina this summer. The rates you have been quoted are pretty much in line with what I have encountered. Keep in mind my travel agent set up the transfers.

Deltouny: you have several threads with the same questions.

So, I'll repeat my answers here:

Assuming you are talking in dollars, those prices are preposterous, unless you are going to be riding a Rolls Royce, driven by a multilingual driver dressed in tails.

I agree with Graziella about most of what she said, except the last part about asking the hotels, because I feel many of the hotels are into this "thing" too.

Never heard of those travel agencies, but that does not necessarily mean they are bad.

I certainly do NOT advise staying in downtown hotels in Bariloche, but it's a matter of taste.

The hotel I go to in Bariloche picks up its guests at the airport for free.

I have never been to the other places you mention.

I suggest further research before closing any deals. I assume you are talking about the northern hemisphere winter, which means you are coming here during our summer holidays, which translates into crowds. December and March are great times to travel to our South, with no crowds. January is the worst, as far as crowds are concerned.

The rates are absurdly high. Remise (private car) and taxi services are plentiful, at least in Buenos Aires.
The fare for a remise will be slightly higher than for a taxi, but about 1/3rd the cost of the transfer rates you have been quoted. When you arrive at EZE or AEP simply look for one of the booths offfering transfer service and away you go...simple, quick, and much less expensive. Manuel Tienda Leon is one of the most established services, and they usually have English speaking staff on hand to help out...

I agree with AV...downtown Bariloche is too noisy for my tastes.....there are numerous options outside of town that offer serenity.....but that is a matter of taste and budget....My personal favorite....LLao LLao.....

Even though the $ sign is used, it might well refer to pesos. Pesos are usually indicated in $, whereas US$ are indicated like that.

The OP clearly indicates he is talking in dollars: "(yup, dollars)"

Deltouny Jul 8th, 2006 06:39 PM

First, yes, the agency quoted dollars, not pesos which seemed ridiculous based on everything that I read. Thank you very much everybody and sorry for the multiple postings on this forum - I meant to post to Argentina specifically the first time but got it wrong and then multiplied my errors!

Our hotel in BsAs arranged for a remise to meet us at the airport for $AR57.00, which is approximately $US20.00. We also had them arrange remise transport back to the airport for about the same price. Prepare for the ride of your life, whether you use a remise or taxi. Portenos have their own style of driving! LOL
