Arenal Observatory Lodge

Booked two nights here with my girlfriend...any opinions on it...I have been told that the lava flow is on the other side of the mountain...Has anyone stayed here?

i stayed here a few years ago. we weren't lucky enough to see any lava flow but we did take a walking tour that they offered at the lodge and got to walk on the remains of a lava flow. at night we could hear the volcano erupting - which was very cool. be sure to go the hot springs nearby.
the lodge itself is very rustic - sort of feels like camp.
have a great time!

The best hotels for seeing the volcano's show run from about Tabacon to the Arenal Paraiso.

Hi-
My husband and I spent 2 nights there last summer and enjoyed it. It's a little off the beaten path, but if you have a rental car you should be fine.
I've posted that part of my travelogue on my website, so if you want to see my photos of the hotel and read of our experience there, please check it out.

Have a great trip!

Kristina: I loved your travelogue of Arenal and your photos are some of the best I've seen. Can't wait to read (and view) the rest!

Kristina, thank you for your wonderful website. My husband and I will be visiting Arenal Observatory Lodge in July, so your detailed travelouge was of great interest to us. I'll warn my husband not to fall in the water!

Thanks! There's more to come. We visited Manual Antonio park and a private reserve called Rainmaker. I should have that posted soon.
