Arenal in October
 

I'm trying to plan a honeymoon (wedding on 9/27) and we're considering Tabacon in Costa Rica. I'm well-travelled in Europe, but have no idea what to expect in latin america. My biggest concern is with the weather - we'd be there for the first week of October. Anyone know what the weather in CR is usually like that time of year?

If it's no good, any other recommendations? Considered the Azores or Canaries, but airfare is outrageous...

October is the rainiest month of the year. CR is beautiful and I love it there, but if it were my honeymoon I'd probably opt for a location guaranteeing more sunshine in October.

You can go to costa-rica-guide.com and check out the rain patterns for each area during certain months. I agree with hip that you're likely to have rain during October in that area. We went to Hawaii for our honeymoon and loved it - does that interest you at all? We love CR, but October wouldn't be choice of when to go.

I disagree with the statement that the rain in October is confined to the nighttime hours. October is the month where you might have rain 24/7 for days at a time. That was the case this past October.

Thanks all - I've done some more researching and it appears that this is a very rainy season for Western costa rica. Perhaps I'll have to visit CR some other time, unfortunately the honeymoon dates are inflexible :)

I'm looking at some of the caribbean islands, as well as isla mujeres/cancun.

david, you might also check into Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands, or USVI's; we've enjoyed all of those.

David -- Puerto Viejo on the Caribbean side is one our favorite areas of CR. You may wish to research the area more to see if it's something you might like. It's a little more laidback and less resorty and touristy though, so if you are looking for a place like Tabacon it probably wouldn't fit your needs.
