Arenal hotels and hot springs

Hi,

We are traveling for our honeymoon to Arenal in CR. Want some advice on hotels--we def. want a volcano view. Considering Lost Iguana, Kioro, Tabacon, Arenal Naraya and Arenal Observatory? Or any others...

Also, which are the best host springs to visit. we have heard Tabacon but it also sounds like most expensive and overcrowded...

Thanks!

We always stay at the Lost Iguana and love it. It's set at the edge of town, so it's a quiet, beautiful property with gorgeous grounds and a nice volcano view. Our room had a jacuzzi tub and nice balcony with two rocking chairs on it, a mini frig, and it's right next to the Hanging Bridges.

We've done Tabacon and Eco Termales, and we really preferred Eco T because they limit the number of people that come in to 100, and they offer a really wonderful dinner. If you want a lot of action, water slide, etc, then go with Tabacon. I also like the fact that Eco T is locally owned.

If you have time, I would throw in a couple of nights at the Peace Lodge, about an hour outside San Jose - it's the ultimate honeymoon hotel, very over the top.

Best view of the volcano is AOL, hands down. But, you really should have your own car while there. Best location, mediocre food.

Eco Termales gets the best reviews, and we're headed there in six weeks.

I'm with RAC. If I had it to do over, I would stay at the Observatory Lounge.

erin, you might also go over to www.tripadvisor.com and look up each hotel for reviews and pictures; that always gives me a good idea of if it's my kind of place.

Thanks! We booked one night at AOL (the Observatory) and will do a couple other nights near Arenal.

Anyone know more about Kioro?

We haven't stayed there, but it gets good reviews. One of our drivers told us that's where Bill Gates stayed when he was in town, so I have to think it's pretty nice.

We have friends who stayed there and liked it, although I don't remember all their comments. It was almost new at the time--2-3 years ago.

P.S.: Our friends' last name wasn't Gates. :)
