Are there many Americans in CR?
 

I was wondering with all the activity on this board that CR must be filled with American tourists. When others have traveled here, do you often run into other tourists?

"Do you often run into other tourists?"<BR><BR>It sort of is unavoidable if you stay at any hotel and visit any tourist attractions - tourists tend to stay at hotels and visit those places!<BR><BR>But seriously, CR is a very popular destination with Americans and I would say 80-90% fellow travellers we met on our two trips to CR were Americans (a lot of people from California).

We also met a number of expats who own and run hotels there and some retirees who chose CR as their retirement home.

I'd like to expand on Iza's response that I believe 80 to 90% of travellers to CR are from North America; of that group the majority are Americans and a significant amount from Canada. As for the remainder, I'd guestimate it's comprised of Germans, French, Brits, Italians & Australians.<BR><BR>And yes, I'm one of those American tourists.

The ICT , Costa Rican tourist board says that roughly 80 % of tourism is north americans, which includes Canadians and Americans.I believe that the current estimate about how many Americans live in Costa Rica is about 35,000. However I have never been able to figure out if that number reflected people here with legal residency or was just a general number. The amount of Americans and Canadians moving to Costa Rica every year is increasing. The place has become a popular retirement place as one can live here less expensively, it is the safest country in Latin America and you can likely live here comfortably without speaking SPanish...Although speaking Spanish would make life a lot easier!<BR>Best wishes,<BR>Robbie

Everybody I meet in CR is an American but I have seen one or two Europeans and an Asian or two. Most are Central Americans.
