Anyone know about the Tren De La Costa train in Buenos Aires ?

Hi

I am looking for info on the tren de la costa and want to know if anyone has done it. It runs between Tigre and Buenos Aires. Do you think this is a better option to get to Tigre ? Is it not to touristy ?

thanks

The "Tren de la Costa" does NOT run between Tigre and Buenos Aires. First you have to take a regular train in the Retiro Mitre raiway station across from the Sheraton and later you can board this train.

The good thing about it is that it runs near our Río de la Plata coastline and is, therefore, more scenic. As a tourist, I would take it rather than the regular train, at least one way. I would say it is a bit touristy, only on weekends.

One of the best things about it is that I understand you can get off at a certain station you like, look around and get on again, with the same ticket.

Read all about it in English in:

Thank you so much for your help! We are going to take to Tigre and then take the normal train back.

I am sure a taxi would get us from downtown to the first station of the Tren De La Costa ? Or must we take a train from Retiro? Which do you recommend.

We are very exited about our trip in May. Is it very rainy then ?

Of course you can take a cab, but I'm not sure it makes much sense.

This is not a tropical country and there is no "rainy season", so there is no particular reason, except the vagaries of the weather, why it should be "very rainy" in May.

Have a great time in our town.

Yeah, as Av said, a taxi doesn't make a lot of sense - it'd be a very costly and long ride. You're much better off doing the train to the train (and then on your way back just take the regular train all the way unless you feel like the scenery all over again). Also, depending on where you are in the city, it's possible to take a bus to the train, or even a bus all the way (though that's a long haul).

Oh, and that said, I know people who take a remis (hire car) to and from Tigre - usually runs about 40 pesos each way, so it's not outrageous. Especially good on the return trip if you buy lots of stuff while there...
