The Oscar e-mail issue is my fault...too many senior moments in one day...the correct e-mail is [email protected]! Joyce

Hi hgraham -

My wife and I are also going to be arriving in CR in December and are looking to go from San Jose to Arenal to MA and back to San Jose. Have you had any success in contacting Oscar, and can you give me an idea of what he's charging? A driver sounds much preferable to Interbus, if we can make it work. Thanks for your help!

Ears: Yes, we did get in touch with Oscar via email. He emailed back within a couple days. He is going to drive us from Alajuela to the Observatory Lodge in the Arenal area on our first full day in Costa Rica, Dec. 13. He quoted us $140 for the trip. (At least I hope we get Oscar! After reading another thread about Oscar on this forum, it looks like he might double-book and send someone else?? I'll have to email him and ask him! We decided on Oscar because he speaks good English and sounds fun!) Also, I'm not sure how many hours $140 includes - but I know he doesn't just drive straight there but will take us places we want to go on the way. I think his quote to take us from Arenal to Manuel Antonio was $170. So we are using Grayline (Tabacon made the arrangements) in the afternoon for $25/each. We decided to splurge on our first day and use Oscar! We'll probably use Interbus when we need to go back to Alajuela from Manuel Antonio. We don't have reservations but our hotel said we could book when we get there. Who knows, we'll probably get spoiled using Oscar our first day and see if he's busy on our last day, too! Oscar's quote to take us from MA to Alajuela was $150. He said if we wanted him every day of our trip (10 days) the charge would be $110 per day and he would be available all the time to us, from arrival to departure.
