Any suggestions for Akumal?
We are going to Akumal in March--any ideas on places to stay? I was thinking of a condo on Half Moon Bay owned by the Hotel Akumal Caribe. Has anyone stayed there or at the Hotel? I would love info on anything in that area. Thanks. Gina

We have stayed at Club Akumal Caribe on two different occaisions. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay each time. We stayed in the bungalows and the hotel unit and found both to be really nice. We looked at the condos during our last visit and decided that we would stay there next time. Check out their website if you want more info. http://www.hotelakumalcaribe.com/
They were great to deal with. The staff was fantastic, food excellent, and we really enjuyed snorkling at Yal-Ku Lagoon. Eme for more info if you wish.

I would not stay at any of the villas/homes in south Akumal. I know of someone on this site that said this place called La Hamacas was terrible! The guests were robbed by the maid! The owners were super rude too, when notified. Watchout for locals...they are very poor, so I guess they think it is ok to take your money. Look over your charges carefully at all restaurants.
NOTHANKS-NOWAY

So sad that "NoWay" may concern you about the safety of your upcoming trip with sweeping generalizations about what is undoubtedly an isolated incident. It's unfortunate that his/her travels have not been more educational...
That having been said, you will find nearly all of Akumal to be resonably-priced, the people hard-working and friendly, and a SAFE environment for you and your family!
