My husband and I are thinking about Ixtapa, but haven't been very successful at getting information from the internet. We would appreciate any information on this destination. Thanks.
There are a lot of questions in the above postings. First, any beach area of Mexico is going to be very hot and humid in the summertime. Now to particulars.
First, lets get Mazatlan out of the way. I used to live near Mazatlan and was there just a few months ago. I definitely do NOT recommend Mazatlan. Probably the worst place of any tourist destination in Mexico. Lousy beaches, ugly city and surrounding countryside. The only good thing about Mazatlan is the people and the Panama restaurant/bakery.

Puerto Vallarta is an interesting place but again lousy beaches. The countryside is fairly pleasant and you can make trips into the mountains. Very touristy as all of the tourist places are in Mexico. I guess that makes sense but some areas are more touristy than others.

Cabo San Lucas had good beaches and great fishing. Very expensive and again tourism is all they have.

Cancun area has excellent beaches but very touristy and expensive. There are calmer places outside of Cancun that are much nicer.

There are other west coast areas such as mentioned above that could be viable alternatives. Just stay away from Mazatlan unless your only goal is to drink as much as possible and don't really care about anything else. Don't go to Puerto Vallarta if you are looking for good beaches. They don't exist there.

Now we come to my favorite place which is La Paz, BCS. La Paz is a small city of about 150,000 and is the capital of the state of Baja California Sur. Not bery touristy but they get enough visitors to have the amenities. Some of the greatest beaches in Mexico are within 5-10 miles. La Paz is definitely not a summer destination but this is really true of all coastal areas. Direct flights from Los Angeles and Tijuana.

I am going with my 3 teenage daughters to Cancun
in August. We are staying at The Sheraton. I would appreciate any information on staying at the Sheraton, tours to take in Cancun, restaurants and any other info. Thanks, Cindy

We stayed at the Sheraton about three years ago, nice, good beach etc. If you go to any ruins, Chichen Itza is the best - but will be really hot since it's about 3 hours inland. Your kids should enjoy going to the Hard Rock Cafe. I don't remember particular names of good restaurants but we didn't have any problems finding any. Have a great time.
