Any info on the Puerto Jimenez Collectivo?

Hoping to learn more about the collective that runs from Puerto Jimez to Carate.

First off, is it safe? I read the older review on this forum and it sounds questionable.

Then I was wondering, is it possible to see out? I think that I saw a picture some where that showed a truck be that was enclosed. Is this what it is like?

Also, does anyone know the times and cost?

Thank You!!

gem - Leonardo could tell you exactly but best I remember it leaves PJ around 6 or 630 and also around 1. Don't recall the cost but I think less than $5. I had a blast myself - it was a pick-up truck with seats along the sides of bed of the truck, think I recall a canvas covering but a couple times I know we had to duck from low branches. It's been running daily for years and I don't recall any thing bad about it other than that 1 post you mentioned that I do remember reading years ago I think. Honestly I had a great time, there were a couple workers and we chatted (as best we could!) and saw an awesome hawk.

Thank you, Tully! You are busy tonight (answering all my questions- thank you!).

Were you able to see out of the collectivo? Did you take all the way to BdC?

No problem! Oh, yes definitely able to see. Keep in mind they use different trucks but I would think for the most part similiar to what I took just as it's hot and it's an open bed truck. I actually took it from Carate to BdC, took about an hour or so.

Thank you, Tully.

I think that when we had a taxi called for us to take us to the airport from Iguana Lodge that it was the same as a collectivo. It was a truck that had benches in the back and took quite a few people, but still at taxi prices.

I pm'd you on trip advisor. I am hoping to get your opinion about something.

The collectivo from puerto jimenez to carate leaves at 6 am and 1:30 pm.

It costs $8, for the 80km trip. Takes about 2 hours.

It is safe, but no confortable. It was changed recently for a bigger truck. I will take a picture to it and post it later.
