Another Orquideas question

I just read a trip report on TripAdvisor where they said the macaws and toucans in the cages at Orquideas were really sick looking (or something like that). Is this true?

wouldn't you be if you lived in a cage? it's always sad to see.

There is a toucan & 2 macaws in cages. Honey has a tendancy to pick at her feathers a lot, you will probably see her the most as she is often let out to wander near the pool area. These birds were raised in bad conditions by private owners, Orquideas gave them homes since they could not be released back into the wild. There is, sadly, a dire lack of funding in CR for birds and animals like these to go to places like Zoo Ave.

Tully--then the macaws are rescues? Are the toucans rescues also?

tully Jan 26th, 2007 05:42 PM

From what I was told, yes, they were rescued from private owners who had them illegally.

Thanks Tully--I think it's great that they rescued the birds.
