Just returned from a 1 week stay at the Barcelo Maya Beach Resort. Our first time in the Maya Riviera. Loved it!!!
The hotel opened last fall. This is a huge hotel divided into 2 sections; beach & garden. Most rooms do have garden view. Rooms are of good size with balconies. The hotel is nicely spread out. Lots of dining options (6 restaurants including a la carte). The buffets were very varied and very good quality. (Never got sick). Lots of daily activities; nightly entertainment and a disco. This is not party central though. Guests ranged from couples, to families with young children,to large groups. The best part was the incredible expanse of beach. No shortage of beach chairs. Snorkelling off the pier at the beach. Windsurfing/kayaking/catamarans. For a laid back holiday I would definitely recommend it.

We just returned from a week at the Barcelo Maya in April. The resort was beautiful. The beach was picture perfect. Always a lounge at the pool or beach available. Service was a bit slow, and food was good not great!!

Nightlife at the disco was nice - really enjoyed by the teenagers and pre-teens.

I would be leary about booking your trip through Signature Vacations, Inc. or Fly Royal Airlines there. Neither group is very customer friendly. We had plane trouble on the way down which was due to lack of maintenance to repair in a timely fashion. They threw food on the floor and they expected us to eat it!! No one wore name tags in order to protect their identity. And when we requested Signature staff to come and speak to us - they refused. They had our money and that was all they cared about.

Thanks to them - we lost a whole day at the Resort.
