Alternative Travel Options from Cozumel Airport to Playa del Carmen

I am researching my options for travel between the Cozumel airport to Playa del Carmen. I am aware that there is a ferry which runs from Cozumel to PDC, but I fear that the departure times will be inconvenient, based on when my flight will land in Cozumel. Is anyone aware of private boat or helicopter operators which might offer transportation beween Cozumel and PDC?

It might be easier to land in CUN and cab to PDC -- took us 50 min and no contingencies tied to flight delays and ferry schedules.

Unfortunately the flight is already booked, and was significantly less expensive than one flying into CUN. Hopefully I won't lose those savings in getting from Cozumel to Playa!

You would eat up the cost savings by taking private transport to Playa. You're best to take the ferry unless you're anticipating the need for an overnight stay. I do this option to PDC also when the price is right.

Thank you--that's very good to know! I'll stick with the ferry.

We did the ferry thing a few years back with our kids. It's managable. And on our return, we took the ferry back to Cozumel after checking out of PDC early in the day. We had a few hours to kill before our flight. We found a small hotel near the Cozumel ferry that held our bags for a few dollars, while we spent some time walking around Cozumel and grabbing a bite to eat before heading to the airport.

Lots of people just plan to spend the first night on Coz particularly if it's a late arrival. There are lots of very inexpensive places and for just one night, eh. Not to overly frighten you but the ferry occasionally suspend operations if the sea is too rough. Best to have an alternative plan since ferry is the only way to/from Coz and Playa.
