all-inclusive in playa del carmen

Going in Dec. with dtr. & her family, including a 7- & 10-yr. old. Looking into 2 Riu hotels. Which is the best one?

Which two are you looking into? I think there are four of them.

Not to knock the Fodor's site (b/c I really like it) but the tripadvisor Playa Del Carmen site gets a lot of traffic. I'm going in July -- so I've been reading the sites alot.

There is the RIU Palace Riviera Maya, the RIU Palace Mexico, the RIU Yucatan, the RIU Playacar, the RIU Tequila and the RIU Lupita all in Playacar. The Tequila and Lupita are not on the beach.

looking at Riu Mexico & Riu Riviera Maya. Want something upscale that accepts kids.

Riu Mexico, but be aware there has been some beach erosion there...We don't mind, as we have to walk to the beach where we live as well...

I'd say with kids the Yucatan with their newer pool area plus there are a lot of families there. The RIU Palace Mexico doesn't cater to families as much and is smaller/more formal than the Yucatan. They are right next door to each other.
