Hi,

As some of you know from my previous posts, I'm trying to shave some $ off my quote from Cintia at WOW! Argentina.

This would be a minor savings, but just thought I'd ask. (I'm posting this with the knowledge that I may decide the convenience factor outweighs all else.)

Private transfer from EZE to hotel w/Meeting Point service (this would be on my arrival from U.S.);
from hotel to domestic airport the next day;
from domestic airport to hotel when I return to BA; and
from hotel to EZE when I depart Argentina (hotel may be an apartment)
is quoted at $160(US).

Could I do these trips safely in a taxi for much less? Could I get a taxi at the airport and at the hotel/apartment easily at whatever hour?
I know that flight delays are very likely, so I wouldn't expect to be able to reserve in advance on my own. If I go through Cintia, I expect that she would make adjustments as needed, and that's probably part of what I'd be paying for.

So what do you think? Does the price difference outweigh the convenience/safety/peace of mind factor?

Cindy_S: you CAN, of course, do it for less money, probably for about 100 dollars altogether, but you have to judge the value of the "convenience/safety/peace of mind factor" and you are the only one who can do that.

I have already suggested you ask Isabel for a quote.

Yes, you can call a Remiss and go To the airport and when you arrive, you can go to one in the airport .. they cost less than $100..

Try VIP Remiss..
Do Not take a taxi in the line outside.

A remis is a private car. I use World Car. Arrange transport from the booth, which is to your left as you exit customs. the fare is 98 pesos for a car and 115 pesos for a van. Divide by three for an approximate amount in dollars. A remis is safe, reliable and much less expensive than the quote you have received. Transportation to the domestic airport is about 15 pesos from the Palermo area....phone ahead for a radio taxi or get the hotel to phone for a cab....from the domestic airport back to your hotel...another remis...booths are in the baggage claim area.

Since I will be needing transfers to/from EZE and Aeroparque, this thread is most helpful. Just so I understand....when I arrange the remise at the airport, I pay there correct? So there is no question of the price being more when I arrive at my destination, correct? Also, if I arrange for a transfer, say the day before, are they generally reliable to be there at the arranged time?

Do you know if World Car's vans can fit 5 persons? I don't see any vans on their website. Is a small utility vehicle considered a 'van' in BA?

Well, as you know, I'm NOT drdawggy (he is THE GREATEST), but I phoned both World Car and Tienda León (see their website above).

World Car said you needed to reserve a van (it sounds like they don't normally have them available) and it costs 270 pesos to get you and your party into town.

Tienda León DOES show vans among their fleet and they charge the same.

I usually suggest Tienda León, where you can reserve online and pay with your credit card.

Have a great time in our town, ladies.

BTW, Mary, it seems that TWO cars work out cheaper than ONE van, which seats 10 or 12 people.

Thanks for calling about the cost of the vans. I could not pull up a price for vans on tiendaleon.com. Got a message: "There are not available data". I guess we'll hire 2 cars. Here are the current prices I have found for cars:

Taxi Ezeiza $88
World Car $95
Tienda Leon $115

I'm inclined to save money unless there is a significant difference in service, etc.
Is Tienda Leon worth the extra $20-27? ( In our case since we need 2 vehicles the savings could be $54 or U$18)

Well, Mary, the esteemed drdawggy, who is most certainly quite busy having fun in our town, would most likely say the first two options are OK and cheaper.

I say 18 bucks are a small expense in the framework of a trip by a party of five and I recommend Tienda León, particularly for first time visitors.

So, it's up to you.

One more question! The bus with manuel tienda - I see they drop you off at Terminal Madero, will they drop you off at your hotel as well or will I have to grab a cab from there? I was only considering the bus option from EZE to my hotel, not really as it's a lot cheaper but because I get in so darn early I was thinking may as well take my time getting to the hotel.

tully: not absolutely sure, but I believe you would have to take a cab at Terminal Madero.

No chance of an early check-in?

We have recently returned from our first trip to Argentina and used Cintia at www.wowargentina.com as our travel agent. She arranged various airport and hotel pickups and we appreciated having someone there waiting for us. The drivers were well dressed, the cars were modern, and totally clean. I am glad that we spent the money.

World Car is now charging 98 pesos. Thier vehicles are modern and the drivers are very professional. I see virtually no difference in this service and Manuel Tienda Leon.

Taxi EZE's cars are bit older and beaten up....kind of like me...so I have no problem with them...but you might want to take a remis....from either World Car or Tienda Leon.

When my daughter and son in law arrived I met them at the airport and we took a World Car remise back to town...they told me they had a car for 98 and a van for 135, depending on the amount of luggage....I do not know the size of the van, since the 98 peso vehicle met our needs....sorry...
