Airlines from US to BA
 

Any recommendations for flying from the states to BA? I'm hoping to hear from travelers with experience on Aerolineas Argentinas or LAN from JFK. They seem to have good prices for the dates we would want to travel.

I read a lot of posts about the problems and strikes that occur when traveling within Argentina. Do these strikes affect the international flights?

I would steer clear of Aerolíneas. LAN should be much better, but do they fly direct to BA from JFK?

LAN doesn't have a direct flight. They stop in Santiago. The direct flight makes Aerolíneas the more appealing option. Part of me says, "With no connection to miss, a delay is no big deal." I'll probably feel differently if I wind up stuck at JFK for hours and hours.

Well, if you feel lucky, take Aerolíneas, which is Spanish-owned, BTW.

I imagine you DO know you get cheaper local flights, if you fly into Argentina with them.

I did not know that. However, I was leaning toward LAN for flights within Argentina based on all the comments in this forum. Judging from your posts Rooster, you seem to travel back and forth fairly often. Which airline do you fly?

Anyone else want to chime in with their flight experience from the US? Delta and American are also options but the stops/total travel time make them less appealing.

I flew UA non-stop from IAD to EZE. No problems. Left on time and easy overnight flight both ways.
From what I've read, Aerolineas should be avoided at all costs. Sounds like they have ongoing issues for at least a year if not longer. I did fly them on iternal flights and had no problems, but this was a couple years ago and maybe i was just lucky.

I understand that if you fly into Argentina with LAN you also get better prices for local flights with them.

I fly with Delta, just about once a year, but that is because sometimes we go to New York before or after the Masters golf tournament and, therefore, the Atlanta stop is convenient for me.

One thing you could research is a new direct Chicago/BA flight which American is/was promoting.

Aerolineas has a <u>terrible</u> on time record.

Didn't know if you were aware, but CO flies direct from EWR to EZE (one stop at IAH - no change of planes).

Hi, in the event this is helpful to anyone...American Airlines flies direct from JFK (NY) to Buenos Aires. A direct flight was important to us, but it took us a while to find one. Once we did, it was less than any other connecting flight we found, so we booked right away!

If you can go direct on American that would be best. On a recent trip our Aerolinas Argentinas flights were delayed within country, but they were not cancelled.

I would strongly advise against Aerolineas. Flights are routinely late...less often flights are simply canceled without much prior warning.

LAN and American are partner airlines. If you fly into the country on either LAN or American you will be eligible for discounted fares within the country (or within all of South America). The one world web site can give you the details.
