airline transfer (Sansa)
I am arriving in San Jose on a Delta flight at 12:30pm in mid-May. I would like to catch a 1:30pm flight to Quepos on Sansa Air. My question is this: is it ridiculous to think that I will be able to make my tranfer in time? Also, will I need to collect my luggage from Delta at Baggage claim and them re-check it at Sansa air (all within that hour layover) and then catch my flight? I know this may sound naive but I've never flown to Central America and have no clue how the airlines work once I get there. For example, Since I am flying 2 different airlines how do I direct my luggage to Sansa? Do I do this at the Bostononce I get to San Jose?????? A zillion thanks for any help you can offer...

FG..You will be playing it tight. Remember: you will have to go through customs, which takes a little time. If you are smart, you should only have one carry-on piece of luggage that weighs 25 pds or less. Then you don't have to worry about going to baggage claim. The Sansa airlines will weigh your bag at check in to make sure you comply. The check in for Sansa is located right next to where you walk to the plane, so that is not a worry

I think it all depends on how long the lines are at immigration. Last trip we were there at least 45 minutes. The Sansa terminal is in a different building, not just a different desk. I don't how long a walk it would be, probably not long. Is there another flight after the 1:30 one?

Even with a carry-on on your international leg, you will most certainly need to check it at Sansa. They lost our luggage going from San Jose to Palmar Sur a couple months ago. It arrived the next day, but it wasn't fun being on the Osa peninsula for a day with long pants and no bathing suit. Keep an eye on your bags!

I was in Costa in February and the line at Customs was about 30 minutes long. I cannot recall how long it took me to get my luggage. Sansa, I believe, requires you to check in 30 minutes prior to the departure of your flight. But, at the same time, not one of the intra-country flights that I took left on time. Everything is on Tico time, meaning 20 or so minutes late.

On our recent trip to Costa Rica we were flying Nature Air from Palmar Sur to Quepos. There were only four passengers (six passenger plane), and when we all arrived at the airport we left. We arrived in Quepos almost 30 minutes BEFORE we were supposed to leave Palmar Sur. So, ya just never know.....
