Airfares to Yucatan

I am getting stuck at the $600-700 level trying to find RT travel between Oregon and Merida.

Does anyone have a source where I might be able to beat these fares?

What time of year do you plan to fly?

Those fares dont really sound out of line to Merida, due to lack of competition there. If you can find a super cheap Cancun fare, you can use one of the many excellent luxury buses from Cancun to Merida--takes about 4 hours and, to me, an enjoyable trip.
Good luck!

We had the same problem with SFO- MID. The airfares to Merida were so expensive when we went a couple of years ago we ended up used miles to get us there...it was 35,000 rt on Continental.

If we had been paying we would certainly have gone via Cancun...however it is lovely to fly directly into Merida and I think it affords a very different impression of the Yucatan.

Something is outta whack with the Posts. My travel dates are July-August 2004 but who knows where that post went?

Yes, Cancun is an option but Merida would work best. It is the first trip for my 7-year old daughter and, well, you get the idea -- dropping into colonial Merida versus the Cancun bus mambo.

I agree, would much prefer to fly to Merida. I prefer to avoid Cancun anytime I can do it! Cancun can be such a hassle and no Mexican atmosphere at all.
Good luck--hope you find something!
