Airfare from BA to Salta?
Does anyone know the round trip airfare to Salta from Buenos Aires? How many nights would you spend in the Salta area after doing 5 or 6 in BA? Where would you stay in Salta? Thanks

We paid between 200 and 250 for the round trip airfare.
We spent 5 days and nights in the area, about the right amount of time.
We stayed at a great little hotel a few blocks from the center of Salta, Posada Del Marques.

as vandykes said the air ticket return is about 250 u$s That is the cheapest rate you can find for tourist. hurry up stimes it is difficult to find them, but not impossible if you are patient.
Yes 5 nights in the region is perfect. giving you time to visit the city of Salta.
one day to visit cachi and stay there or return l
one day to visit Cafayate(the wineries)and stay one night if possible.
And then, the strawbery which is not Salta but Jujuy. That is really what fascinates tourists who many times think are in Salta. Purmamarca or Tilcara deserves a night there too.
If you finish in Jujuy take the plane back from Jujuy, no need to come back to Salta.
But if you have only 4 nights stay in the city of Salta and make it a base.

Should I book our airfare to Salta before we get there or do it with a local travel agency once we arrive? Is there perhaps a website, if we need to do it in advance? Are there many flights per day, say around 3rd or 4th week in March and what airline should I look for? Thanks

there are many flight a day for Salta.
To guarantee the low rates you should begin to decide it. Anyway with a bit of patience you get them in February.
Salta, Jujuy most especially deserve 6 days complete .
Prices in March are higher than now.
There are places which are very good level and obviously expensive. There are some others that are affordable to everybody .
i should fly to jujuy.
first night in Purmamarca, Jujuy.
second night in Salta
third night in Cachi
fourth night in Cafayate
if possible another one in cafayate and going back to Salta to board the last plane to Buenos Aires
Everybody loves the area.
