affordable one month car rental?

I'm going to be in costa rica for the month of june (in the santa teresa area for the most part)and can't seem to find a car rental for under $1,500 for the month. We're looking for an SUV, since it is the rainy season, think we need it. Anyone have any ideas? Help is greatly appreciated!

Absolutely try Tricolor (probably the least expensive), but I know Dollar to be very dependable as well.

We were there for one week and our small SUV Suzuki Igneous (you will pay double for one of the larger ones like a Pathfinder) was $270 everything included.

This was through online reservations which sometimes are a little discounted. I definitely think you can do it for under $1500. I'm thinking more like $1200.

I thought of something else. June is one of the lowest of the low season months. E-mail Ivan Segura at Dollar Rental and tell him you have $1200 to spend for a 4 week rental of an SUV in June. I would not be surprised if he won't work with you this way. Check it out. However, again I'd say that Tricolor has beat even Dollar's prices for us online.

thanks for the advice, although I think $1,200 is out of our range as well, considering we're traveling for a whole month. Think we made need something more unconventional, if anyone has any ideas???

Even in the rainy season a regular sedan will get you most places in CR. Many prefer the higher ground clearance of a 4wd but it is not totally necessary if you just take it easy. Dont drive up any volcanoes or cross any swollen streams and you will be ok! Good luck and have fun!
