Advice on Bosque del Cabo

We are going to Costa Rica beginning next weekend and will be spending one night in San Jose where we will have access to ATMs, 3 nights at the Tiskita Jungle Lodge and 4 nights at Bosque del Cabo. We have a couple of questions for those who have stayed in these places. Our lodging is already paid for but we have received conflicting advice on how to pay for incidentals such as guides, yoga classes, etc. Should we carry dollars (small bills), travelers checks, Colones? What other expenses, other than food and lodging, did you have?
Also, can you use a hair dryer or other small electrical appliance at either Tiskita or Bosque? Thanks in advance for your help.

You will have lots of replies on this one at least where Bosque is concerned! The first year we went to Bosque we had originally planned on going to Tiskita but changed our minds shortly before going. Bosque wasn't nearly as busy then so it was easy to get a room. We still, after many trips to Bosque, haven't made it to Tiskita so be sure to come back on here and let us know how it was.

We usually pay with cash. There is a safe in the cabinas or you can leave it at the office. Colones won't be necessary at Bosque. The things you can expect to pay for over and above your lodging and food are; tours, tips, and beverages. Obviously souvenirs if you buy any. If you get some rides to or from the beach there will be a small charge as well.

You can't use any electrical appliances at Bosque. We were told we could charge our camera batteries in the cabina. We used to charge them in the office.

Have a wonderful time! It won't be long now.

We paid for Bosque del Cabo with a personal check backed up by our credit card. We had a pretty hefty bill since we were there 6 nights and went deep sea fishing. We didn't want to carry that much cash. We were able to pay for everything (lodging, taxi rides, bar bill, fishing, animal sanctuary) with our check. We used cash in our tip envelope.

Your hair will be wet most of the time you are at Bosque - either from being freshly showered, or sweating! Bring some barrettes and hair clips, and enjoy the break from your beauty routine (I sure did). :)

Thanks to everyone. We'll report back on our time in Costa Rica.

We stayed at BdC just recently and paid with traveler's checks - I too didn't want to carry that much cash. They had no problems with traveler's checks. You can include everything on your final bill including tips. For the tips just make a list of the names (like Kevin the driver) or the title (maid for LaPalma) and the amounts for each.

Not sure about the other places. Our hotel in San Jose (Orquideas Inn) took Mastercard.

Most places will not accept traveler's checks - make sure you ask specifically.

Have fun!
