Adventures in Portobelo, Panama
 

So we arrive to this pirates town called Portobelo near Colon in Panama.
Its a very small town with famous forts and from where lots of sailboats departure to San Blas and Cartagena, so no wonder you'll find all of a sudden a bunch of backpackers or motorbikes early in the morning around town that will disappear at some point between noon and 2pm!
Most of tourists you see around here come from a tour already booked in Panama City.. i've always wondered why on earth do people do that instead of giving it a chance to either explore by themselves or hire/book local!! let the small towns get income out of tourism too!!
Tomorrow is Congo night for example... and ppl that come for the day will miss the fun of this particular and traditional night where Diablos and Congos come together and dance to the sound of whistles and later on to drums (it takes part every saturday by the way)
Randomly walking we met Francesco, an italian guy who's been living in the town for 4 years who works along with the locals to show Portobelo as a local and uses the local horses, kayukos (dugout canoes) and boats to show people around. He took us to the rivers where you could kayak between the manglares, hiked thru the jungle, saw waterfalls and took as to awesome "private" beaches where you can not only snorkel but wild camp too!! and listen all night monkeys growling hahahaha we thought this was just awesome and asked if we could let people know about this. you can contact him at 507 6739 1685 or ask for him at the most popular captains bar! he'll more than happy show you around or let you know all the scoopes

Now we are just waiting for the Congo night to see what else Portobelo has to offer!! before continuing our trip to the very end of this road :)
