Accommodations - Placencia

Hi,

I am booking a trip to Belize for Thanksgiving week and am running into accommodation issues. We really like the looks of Turtle Inn and they only have a 2-bedroom garden villa for our stay..it's just my husband and me and I've read you need to be on the seafront in order to catch breezes at night....

So my question is would you fork over the big bucks for the garden villa, or is there something remotely equal to the Turtle Inn cabanas on the beach somewhere else in Placencia? Parrot Grove??

The Inn at Robert's Grove doesn't particularly appeal to us as they look like reguar hotel rooms...the beach cabanas are what we're looking for..

Any comments/ideas from someone who's been around Placencia a good deal -- Lan, are you out there??

Thanks much,

I just returned from Placencia . . . we're budget travelers so naturally we didn't stay at Turtle Inn, Kitty's, Roberts' Grove.

Now that I've been to Placencia, I would not stay in one of the above resorts unless I had a car and unless I just wanted to sit on the beach. They are too far from town to walk and I personally would not want to have to take a taxi everyplace.

The Tradewinds would be my choice . . . $40/night for a private cabana right on the beach, right near the boat dock, right in the smack-dab middle of everything. I looked at the cabanas and they had two double beds, fan, refrigerator, coffee maker, bath w/shower, front porch w/chairs and hammocks. They are not luxurious but they are clean and on the beach. http://www.placencia.com/members/tradewind.html

We were even too cheap for the Tradewinds . . . we stayed at Julia's (right next door to the Seaspray Inn) for $28/night (and loved it).

We were in Placencia this past February. We stayed at Las Amigas, at the north end of town. Only two cabanas, right on the beach. Not fancy, but very clean. The web site pictures are true. We walked by Turtle Inn, the beach front units do look awesome, but we would rather be in town, and we didn't have a car.

Thanks, guys, for your reply. This is an anniversary trip for us, so we were planning to go a little higher end this time. The seafront cabanas at Turtle Inn would be perfect for us, but the are not available around our travel dates.

Anybody know about Luba Hati or the Green Parrot? We will definitely have a car while in Belize.

I probably shouldn't answer, since there is second or third hand information, but Luba Hati has been getting some bad reports lately. Personally, I wouldn't chance it.

I think since you're not traveling at the hottest time of the year that I would go with Turtle Inn, even the garden rooms are going to be stunners. During the day it isn't an unpleasant walk into town, and at night you can either drive, or, I think the folks at Turtle Inn will drive you in and pick you up. Anyway, they would in February.

Hi Jean,

I appreciate your comments -- second or third hand info on is better than the info I have --

We have decided to go with Turtle Inn even though the cabanas would be more practical for us...I'm sure we won't regret it at all!

Luba Hati is temporarily closed. It's for sale again. The would-be owners ran off, and Franco has taken it back over again. Green Parrot is so-so, a bit in the need of sprucing up, when I was there a couple of weeks ago. I'm told it may also be for sale.

I've responded by e-mail on the question of Robert's Grove, Turtle Inn, Kitty's, etc., all of which I've enjoyed.
