For an upscale hotel-just read something about The Camino Real Acapulco Diamante-sounds fantastic!!

I've been to Acapulco twice. The first time I went was on vacation, the second time to a weddding. Unless there is a very compelling reason to go back there (like for business or another wedding) I wouldn't go back.

I find that the traffic is terrible, service is not really good, hotels are mostly old (built in the 60's), good food is expensive, and the clubs have way too much attitude.

Cancun maybe more sterile and sanitized, but I really prefer it over Acapulco. I think that Cancun, Ixtapa, Puerto Vallarta and even Huatulco are better choices than Acapulco.

Hmmm.....We loved Cancun, Riviera Maya as well as Cabo San Lucas...I think I should try Acapulco once, one week not two. We'll definitely stay in the Diamante area where the newer facilities are. Maybe go into town a couple of times to sightsee. Thank you all for your advice and suggestions.

For ww, our original poster, you might want to put Puerto Vallarta on your "to do" list as well!!

Suze: Puerta Vallarta or Ixtapa will be our next Mexican destination after Acapulco. Thanks.

The Princess and La Brisas are my two faves for resorty in Acapulco. My favorite non-touristy place is Los Flamingos. It sits on a 500 foot cliff overlooking the Pacific and is a steal. It used to be a hotspot for all the Hollywood bigwigs in the 1940s and 1950s and still has great charm. You will not believe the view.

Forgot to add, the Los Flamingos is in a residential neighborhood.

How would I get to Los Flamigos just to see the hotel if we stay at the Princess? Taxi? How far is it if we are in the hotel zone?

It is sort of downtown kind of near the cliff divers. The restaurant is definitely worth a trip. It is open air and sits on the cliff. You can take a taxi.
