hi, yes, the estrella de oro bus company goes from the southern bus station in mexico city direct to acapulco, has buses leaving nearly every half hour and cost varies from 315 pesos to around 450. Check out
http://www.autobus.com.mx/edo/index.jsp
and see times, prices etc
as fot the water, havent been in a while, but even if in bay isnt too great the beaches outside of town def have swimmable water.

Mexico City > Acapulco takes, on Estrella de Oro, 4.5 to 5 hours - depending upon day of week, time of day, traffic, etc. For the sake of planning: assume 5 hours. Mexico City > Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo takes about 8.5 to 9 hours by bus. Bus companies Estrella de Oro and Estrella Blanca operate on both of those routes, and each company offers service about every 60 minutes during the day - principally between the hours of 6 a.m. and Midnight (with some limited overnight service available).
