AC necessary in Tulum in July??
We are thinking about travelling to Tulum in July and was surprised to see that most places have no ac... i KNOW it is HOT in Mexico in July... anyone been to Tulum in July? Does shade and a ceiling fan cool you off enough??

Ceiling fan? If there's no electricity to run AC there will be none to run fans either. Check for sure but I don't think most of the places in Tulum have either. It is most certainly hot and I've never stayed in Tulum at that time of the year but lots of people I know have. They all pretty much say the same thing, as long as you're close enough to the beach, there is usually a pretty good ocean breeze. I think it depends on your tolerance to not just the heat but the humidity too.

Tulum hotels have everything from a/c (only 3 hotels) to 24 hr power that runs ceiling fans to limited power where ceiling stop at mignight to no electricity at all.
Tulum is off the grid and each hotel supplies it's own electricty via solar/wind which is the most common. The places with a/c have generators. We travel to Tulum every summer and are perfectly comfortable with a beachfront room that allows a breeze into the room plus a ceiling fan to help if the breeze dies down. |
