A week in Mexico

Hi! My girlfriend and I are planning on spending a week in Mexico towards the end of October or early November. I have been to Mexico City, Cancun, Zihuatanejo, Morelia, and Guanajuato. I am wondering what people think as far as where you'd suggest I take her. She has only been to Cancun area. I was considering Oaxaca but with the current unstable political situation there I am having second thoughts. I am also considering Huatulco or Guadalajara. What do you suggest. We are travelers and not simply vacationers.

Check out the state of Michoacan with the great colonial cites of Morelia, Patzcuaro & Uruapan. Pyramids, ruins & volcano's (including a buried church with only the steeple showing), a marvelous waterfall, cataract filled National park, butterfly preserves & fabulous art, furniture, woolens & many other items for purchase at low prices. Patzcuaro is a absolute delight. Hurry before it gets really discovered & the invasion begins.

Hi - will have four weeks in Mex in November. Never been before. Your comment re Patzcuaro caught my attention.

Would you recommend over a visit to say, Campeche?

I have never been to Campeche but from what I know a entirely different experience. Patzcuaro is at about 7,700 feet above sea level in the Sierra Madera, It is home to the Dia de Muertos fête with whole Islands in the lake dedicated to the dead. I personally avoid it at that time as just too crowded but normally very peaceful. Be sure & bring some warm clothes as it can be very cool at night although wonderful Serapes & coats for sale at low prices. Since discovering Michoacan 5 years ago I spend some of my winter there going up from Zihuatanejo on the bus.

I like Patzcuaro and the surrounding artisan pueblos of Tocauro; Erongaricauro; Capula; Tzintzuntzan, and Sta. Clara del Cobre.
El dia de los Muertos is a madhouse there.
Rest Cha Cha Cha is said to be perhaps the best in Michaocan.

Thanks for everyone's help. I have been to Patzcuaro and some of the surrounds so I am well aware of it but wanted to consider other alternative options and want to hear others' suggestions. Anyone recommend Mexico City? Huatulco? Anywhere else in Mexico?
