A visit to Surinam in 2018

Hello Fodorites,
This year I plan a trip to Suriname, the small country at the northern shores of the South American continent.
I am busy figuring out what the best time of year would be. I know Suriname is a tropical country so it's bound to rain every day.
There is a longer rainy season though (June,July) and that would not be so good for visits to the interior as the rivers will be too wild I have been told.
Late September/October would be an option which would give me plenty of time to prepare.
All suggestions re accommodation, trips, restaurants are most welcome.
Thank you so much!

P.S. there is no tag for Suriname on this new forum.

The only limited response I can offer was our weather experience in Venezuela (Merida, Isla Margarita, Caracas, Caniama/Angel Falls) a few years back. We opted for the drier season as access to the falls would have been tricky, whether by boat or plane due to the rains. I suspect a similar climate to Venezuela's lowlands? I might suggest checking out Lonely Planet's Thorn Tree forums.

Thanks very much Baldone. I realize that Suriname is not on the list of top countries to visit. The Lonely Planet is always a good source of information.

Hi Elisabeth,

There is a tag for Surinam on the South America forum.

There aren't many results there either at the moment and nothing recent, but you're more likely to catch someone with info on that forum, I would think.

Good luck, sounds like an interesting and uncommon choice of destinations.
