8 hour layover...?
My husband and I are flying into Buenos Aires, we land on THursday at 11: 15 am and then are flying out of EZE to Mendoza that same day at 5:30 p.m. (not the best planning because we'll be exhausted, but that's how it is). I was wondering - should we just get ourselves to EZE and pass our time there, unfortunately? I will be so sick of planes/airports by then, but it's probably not really enough time to try to do anything else is it? We already arranged for a car to transfer us, but I was just getting a little sad thinking of how we're wasting 24 hours travelling....
Thanks! |
One idea could be to leave you bags at the Aeropuerto 2000 office at Aeroparque and take a taxi to Palermo or Recoleta, both close. Then go back and get your bags and go to EZE.
|
I suppose then the question is how far in advance before the flight do we need to arrive at EZE?
|
I made a mistake in my post - we are flying into EZE from the US but out of AEP to Mendoza. Sorry
|
AEP is very close to downtown, you should have plenty of time to wander, have lunch, then check in for your domestic flight. If I remember correctly, you only need to arrive 1 - 1 1/2 hours before the flight.

That is most likely you will flying from Aeroparque to MEndoza, as owlwoman points out this airport is kind of iniside the city.
I would try to check the luggage early upon arrival and then get a taxi into town. Now this is the deal, you cannot trust the taxis in Aeroparque who are in line, you have two options public transportarion or a remise . I would choose a remise which are a little more expensive but reliable. You buy your ticket in a booth at Aeroparque and I would go to Recoleta which is nearby and fun to walk around. La Biela is a great traditional cafe for good fare, and people watching. There you can have a reasonably good budged lunch if you stick to their pre set menus. When ready you will have no problem in having the cafe call a taxi for you and get into the airport. It is always better to get a taxi from a well known company or you can give the man in the cafe the name of the company you wish like Premium Taxis or Taxi Paris or Pidalo and get to the airport. The fare will be much less probably half than the one charged by the remise in this case. I mean the Cafe La Biela most likely will call a reliable taxi, BTW it is located in the heart of Recoleta, I believe in Avenida Quinta and Junin. It faces the park and you sit in or out both locations are nice. |
I meant that La Biela is located in Avenida Quintana not Quinta, ( That is in NY, I guess...). You can have the remise drop you right there and then walk around La Recoleta. I hope you have a great time.

Thanks! I think that will be our plan, assuming there's a place to store our luggage at AEP. THanks for the help!

You can also try to check the luggage earlier with the
airliner it might be possible. I hope someone can tell you if there is a place to check the luggage if not you will be a little bored in Aeroparque. If you only have two rollers not very big I guess you can take them with you to La Biela sit in there and hope for the best. You watch people, read, write etc. I cannot think of anything else. Once in a similar case I left them in the office of WOW Argentina but of course I had made reservations through them. Good luck. |
For a longer luggage hold, we left suitcases at Jorge Newbury airport to fly to Iguazu unencumbered. The luggage storage room was safe, secure, easy to use and, only 6 Pesos per 12 hours (2008), per suitcase. The 'i' desk at the end of the airport will set you up to lock your bags and take them first to xray and then to the storage room, just outside the doors. A great service.
Likely there is an even more convenient way to store luggage there on an hourly basis. Have fun. ~MarnieWDC |
Thank you Marnie for the information. I often stop in
Aeroparque=JOhn Newberry Airport in Buenos Aires and certainly will use its luggage deposit. As I said I left once the luggage in WOW Argentina's Office because they are located in Av Santa Fe and at the time it was convenient for me. But I agree it is better not to ask favors.Thank you again. |
